Designed in 1999 by Robert Harding of Oregon Highland Services Llc. The tartan was adopted as the state tartan at the 72nd Oregon Legislative Assembly on April 12th, 2003. In 2017 it was voted on by the Oregon Capitol and enrolled as the Official State of Oregon tartan. That Bill was: (Enrolled) House Concurrent Resolution 13. At that time, it was also made a symbol of the State. Colors: Blue represents the blue of the flag of Oregon, the ocean, the fishing industry, the lakes, and the major inland rivers; gold represents the central color of the flag of Oregon and the many and varied agricultural regions of the state; green represents the forests; white is for the snow-capped mountains; taupe (light brown) is for the high desert and grasslands; crimson represents the fiery volcanic past and the cinder buttes; azure is for the streams, creeks, wetlands, shallow lakes and the wide sweep of the Oregon skies and black represents the obsidian buttes (hills of volcanic glass).
